Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew and NAC Breda have been relegated after results elsewhere confirmed their drop from the Eredivisie during a chaotic clash against SC Heerenveen on Sunday.
The encounter was eventually abandoned following repeated crowd disturbances caused by home supporters throwing flares and fireworks onto the pitch.
Heerenveen captain Boy Kemper opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, firing a stunning effort into the top corner with ten minutes remaining before halftime.
The match was temporarily halted after NAC Breda fans threw a flare onto the field, forcing referee Sander van der Eijk to stop play.
Following the restart, Kemper doubled the advantage from the penalty spot to put the visitors firmly in control.
However, the game descended into further chaos when supporters again threw fireworks onto the pitch, leading to a second suspension.
The referee eventually decided to abandon the match completely due to safety concerns.
The result, combined with outcomes elsewhere, officially condemned NAC Breda to relegation from the Dutch top flight in a disappointing end to the season for Ayew and his teammates.
