Ghana’s football legend, Asamoah Gyan, has been officially appointed as the ambassador for the country’s national teams as well as colts (youth) football.
The former Black Stars captain is expected to use his influence and iconic reputation to support the growth and promotion of football across all levels in Ghana.
The unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday evening at the Pelican Hotel in Accra and attracted several high-profile guests, including former national teammates and the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku.
In his new role, Gyan will be involved in promotional campaigns, fan engagement activities, and initiatives aimed at boosting support for the Black Stars, especially ahead of major upcoming tournaments in North America. He will also represent the Ghana Football Association at official events and help drive visibility for both senior and youth national teams.
During the ceremony, Gyan was visibly emotional as a short documentary showcasing his international goals for Ghana was screened. The audience warmly celebrated the former Sunderland striker as highlights of his career were played.
Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 international goals and represented the Black Stars at three FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2006, 2010, and 2014. He also made history by scoring Ghana’s first-ever World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in 2006.
