Asante Kotoko have approached Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu over the possibility of taking charge of the Porcupine Warriors next season, according to Kickgh.com.
The club is currently under interim management, with Karim Zito stepping in after the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum following a series of underwhelming performances.
Sources reveal that discussions are ongoing between Kotoko and Boadu’s camp, with the club keen on appointing the former Hearts of Oak coach on a permanent basis.
Boadu, 38, has been without a top-flight job since parting ways with Hearts in September last year after a difficult start to the 2022/23 campaign, which included an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
He previously guided Hearts to the Ghana Premier League title in the 2020/21 season—their first in a decade—shortly after joining from Medeama SC in March 2021. He followed up that success by winning the FA Cup in the same season and retaining it the following year, despite falling short in the league.
Should negotiations be finalized, Boadu is expected to assume the Kotoko job ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Ironically, Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea side will face Kotoko in the semi-final of the MTN FA Cup this Sunday in Tarkwa, offering him a direct audition in front of his potential future employers.
