Ghanaian international defender Baba Rahman has expressed deep frustration over the poor state of football pitches in the country, calling for urgent action from authorities to address the issue.
In a heartfelt appeal, Baba Rahman described the situation as “a serious issue that needs urgent attention,” urging sports authorities to at least begin by improving the playing surface for the national team.
“I’m pleading with the authorities — at the very least, let’s start by providing a proper pitch for the national team,” he told Joy Sports.
The former Chelsea and current PAOK fullback did not hold back in expressing how the poor pitch conditions affect the image of the country on the international stage.
“Sometimes, it’s embarrassing. You play international matches, and when you return to your club, your teammates mock the country because of the pitch conditions,” he revealed.
For a nation with rich footballing history and passionate supporters, Rahman believes the current state of the pitches is unacceptable.
“It’s honestly a national disgrace,” he added.
His comments echo the sentiments of many players and fans who have consistently raised concerns about the quality of pitches, especially those used for national and league matches. Poor turf not only increases the risk of injury but also affects the quality of play and Ghana’s reputation globally.
