Young attacker Jamie Leweling has received his first call-up to the senior Germany national team for the upcoming October international break.
The Stuttgart forward, who has been in impressive form this season, steps in to replace Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala, who will miss the international fixtures due to a hip injury.
The official X (formerly Twitter) page of the German national team confirmed Musiala’s absence, stating, “Musiala will not be travelling to the national team on Monday due to hip pain and will also be missing for the 2 international matches. Nagelsmann has called up Jamie Leweling to replace Musiala.”
Leweling, a German-born player of Ghanaian descent, has caught the eye of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is keen to assess what the 23-year-old can bring to the squad. Leweling has been a key player for Stuttgart this season, featuring in all but one of their matches and contributing one goal and two assists in nine appearances.
This call-up represents a significant milestone for Leweling, who previously declined an opportunity to represent Ghana’s Black Stars in 2020, opting instead to join Germany’s U-21 camp while playing for Greuther Fürth. He has since represented Germany at various youth levels, including the U-19, U-20, and U-21 teams, where he earned 11 caps and scored one goal for the U-21 side.
At 23, Jamie Leweling is poised to take the next step in his international career, officially joining the German national team despite being eligible to represent Ghana, the homeland of his parents.
