Brighton and Mohammed Kudus have reached a successful agreement for a five-year contract, spanning until June 2028, with the possibility of an additional year until 2029.
Under the terms of this arrangement, Brighton will provide €40 million, inclusive of add-ons, to Ajax.
The next phase involves Kudus undergoing a medical evaluation, which is scheduled to take place within the upcoming 48 hours.
The decision to pursue this move has been influenced by Brighton’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, who identifies Kudus as a pivotal target.
However, another Premier League team, Chelsea, recently contacted Ajax to express their interest in Kudus.
Although Kudus is currently under contract with Ajax until 2025, he declined a one-year extension in April and has a strong desire to depart the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Having spent three seasons in Amsterdam since transferring from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, the 22-year-old has netted 16 goals in 63 Eredivisie matches. He has also contributed seven goals in 24 appearances for Ghana, including a pair during the 2022 World Cup in the 3-2 group-stage victory over South Korea.
Throughout his tenure in Dutch football, Kudus has showcased his versatility, operating in as many as seven different positions. He has adeptly transitioned from a deep-lying No. 6 to an out-and-out center-forward, with a significant portion of his time spent on the right-wing, consistently challenging opposing full-backs.
