In a decisive ruling, the CAF Disciplinary Board has resolved the contentious Libya vs. Nigeria Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier, awarding Nigeria a 3-0 victory after Libya was found to be in violation of several CAF regulations.
The Super Eagles’ journey to Benghazi ended abruptly when they were left stranded at a Libyan airport, unable to proceed to the game.
Following an investigation, CAF cited the Libya Football Federation for breaching Article 31 of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
The ruling, delivered swiftly, declared Libya’s forfeiture of the match and imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libyan Football Federation, payable within 60 days.
With Nigeria having won the first leg 1-0 through Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s late goal, the awarded forfeit strengthens their position as they push for qualification to the tournament in Morocco. The ruling cements Nigeria’s sweep over Libya, intensifying their path to the AFCON stage.
