Evans Adotey, the coach of Medeama SC, has voiced his disappointment following his team’s narrow defeat to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League encounter.
Despite putting up a spirited performance, Medeama’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals took a hit with a 1-0 home loss to Al Ahly. The Ghanaian champions now face an uphill battle as they travel to Algeria to take on CD Belouizdad in their final group game, with their fate also contingent on the outcome of the match between Yanga and the North Africans.
“We are disappointed with the results. The plan was to win this game but several factors affected us. We started very well and dominated the game. We didn’t do badly, we still have one game. Mathematically we are still in the competition. Let’s see what happens tomorrow,” Adotey lamented in the post-match interview.
Despite the setback, Adotey commended the efforts of his players, affirming that the technical changes made during the game did not significantly impact their performance.
“My boys did well. I don’t think the technical changes affected the performance,” he emphasized.
“Our approach was to play compact both in attack and defense, and it shows in the first half. Our philosophy is to keep the ball and dominate possession. We chose to play direct but at a point, it stopped working so we had to change.”
With Medeama currently occupying the bottom spot in Group D with four points from five games, Adotey and his team remain determined to finish the group stage campaign on a positive note despite the challenges they face.
