Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes the current Black Stars team do not have a penetrative passer going into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Gyan, a former Sunderland striker says midfielders must always take risk to lay passes to a striker when he moves into the 18 yard box.
After watching Ghana’s 3-0 defeat to Brazil last month in an international friendly, Gyan is of the view that the only way to see the team driving in a comfort zone will be taking risk to give penetrative passes.
“Attackers always run but doesn’t get the balls from midfielders, they must take risk with the balls to give penetrative passes”
“And this, is what we are lacking in the team. Some players are afraid to give such penetrative passes because he will be insulted if he miss the pass”When it happens that, I miss the likes of Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston and Michael Essien, you take the risk for the striker to finish those balls”, he added in an interview with Kessben FM in Kumasi.
“The players need to get the courage to give penetrative passes to the striker when he takes off”
“You keep giving the balls and the right pass will break through”.
Ghana, four-time African Champions, are pitted in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
They begin the global showpiece with Portugal on November 24, 2022 before they later Play South Korea and Uruguay.
