Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has strongly criticised the declining quality of the Ghana Premier League, warning that the competition is losing its strength and reputation.
The Hearts of Oak board member stated that his close observation of the domestic league shows a consistent drop in the standard of play. He indicated that the level of football being displayed remains far below expectations.
His remarks come at a time when concerns are growing over the competitiveness of the league, which was once known for producing some of Ghana’s finest football talents. According to him, the challenges go beyond what is seen on the pitch.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe highlighted key issues affecting the league, including poor player development structures, a decline in coaching quality, and inconsistent officiating. He explained that these factors are contributing significantly to the current state of the competition.
He further warned that if urgent and well-coordinated reforms are not implemented, the league could suffer further decline both locally and internationally. He stressed that recent poor performances by Ghanaian clubs in continental competitions reflect the weakening strength of the domestic game.
To restore confidence and credibility, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe called for sustained investment in youth development, better infrastructure, and strict enforcement of professional standards across all levels of the league.
