The English National Men’s Football team is considering recruiting talented midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who has Ghanaian heritage.
Mainoo, an 18-year-old sensation currently playing for Manchester United, has captured the attention of England Manager Gareth Southgate and his staff, who are deliberating on including him in upcoming friendly matches.
According to reports from football transfer expert Graeme Bailey, Mainoo’s stellar performances have generated significant interest from the English camp. There is serious consideration for his inclusion in the squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March.
As England prepares for the Euros, having secured qualification, Mainoo’s potential addition to the team is seen as a strategic move. The team is set to face Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in Group C, following their loss to Italy in the 2020 Euros final.
Mainoo’s impressive displays for Manchester United this season, including a memorable winning goal against Wolves in the English Premier League, have bolstered his prospects for national team selection. His debut goal for The Red Devils in a 4-2 FA Cup victory over Newport County has further enhanced his reputation.
While Mainoo has represented England at youth levels, he remains eligible to play for Ghana. Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has acknowledged the GFA’s interest in potentially collaborating with Mainoo in the future.
