English-born Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Rak-Sakyi made his first-team debut for Chelsea in a thrilling 8-0 win over Armenian side Noah FC in their UEFA Conference League match at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
The 19-year-old, who is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi who plays for EFL Championship club Sheffield United on loan from Crystal Palace, was a standout addition to Chelsea’s lineup as the team dominated the match from start to finish.
Samuel’s debut was a momentous occasion for the Rak-Sakyi family, adding a second professional player to the family’s sporting legacy. Coming on in the second half to replace Christopher Nkunku in the last 11 minutes, the young forward displayed his skill and composure, nearly marking his debut with a goal after a well-timed run into the box led to a close-range shot that was saved by Noah FC’s goalkeeper.
The native Londoner has come all the way through the ranks of the Chelsea Academy, having been at the club since Under-8s level, and signed a new two-year contract in August.
Chelsea sit atop the table with a goal difference of +13.
