The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has imposed sanctions on Nzema Kotoko after the club was found guilty of fielding an unqualified player in a match against King Faisal.
According to the ruling by the FA DC, Nzema Kotoko player Augustine Ofori’s registration had expired before they played against King Faisal in a Division One game on matchday 15 at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli Arena.
Consequently, the committee declared Nzema Kotoko as losers of the game, leading to a deduction of three points from their accumulated points. Additionally, King Faisal was awarded three points and three goals as a result of the ruling.
King Faisal had initially lost the match 1-0 at the AAK Arena but lodged a protest questioning the eligibility of Augustine Ofori to participate in the game.
In line with the GFA Division One League Regulations, the committee’s decision was based on the finding that Augustine Ofori’s registration had indeed expired, rendering him unqualified to play in the said match.
As a consequence of the ruling, Nzema Kotoko has dropped to the relegation zone, occupying the 14th position with 25 points, while King Faisal has moved up two places to the 10th position with 30 points after 22 games in Division One League Zone Two.
Nzema Kotoko retains the option to appeal the decision. However, until then, the club must contend with the ramifications of the sanctions imposed by the GFA Disciplinary Committee.
