Bofoakwa Tano defeated Techiman Eleven Wonders 7-6 in a nervy penalty shootouts on Tuesday May 30 at the Accra Sports stadium to make a return to the Ghana Premier League after 16 years absence.
President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has congratulated Bofoakwa Tano FC, following their qualification back to Ghana’s top-flight football.
The crucial Access Bank Division One League Zone One playoffs failed to be produce a winner in regulation time as the the nerve wracking match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Leslie Aryeetey opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a well-taken seven minutes with a well penalty. But Osman Zackaria equalized for Techiman Eleven Wonders, one minute after the break to make it 1-1.
Neither side was able to find the winning goal in regulation time as referee Latif Adaari whistled for the end of proceedings.
The game travelled beyond 120 minutes resulting in the match being decided on penalties. Bofoakwa Tano ultimately won the shootouts 7-6 to secure their long-awaited return to the elite League.
The Sunyani based side joins Kpando Heart of Lions in the Premier League.
In a Facebook post, the leader of the country’s football, sent his congratulatory message to the Sunyani-based club.
“It’s been a big day and a good showpiece for Division One football. Top top game !!!! Congratulations to Bofo for making it back to the top flight and to Eleven 11 wonders, we say better luck next time,” Kurt Okraku wrote on Facebook.
