The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with German-born Moroccan coach Joseph Laumann, who served as the Black Stars’ assistant coach. His dismissal follows a technical reshuffle aimed at restructuring the team after their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Black Stars struggled in the qualifiers, finishing last in their group. Angola and Sudan secured qualification, with Niger placing third. The poor performance prompted the GFA to evaluate the technical team’s composition, leading to Laumann’s exit.
Desmond Ofei, who currently serves as the Ghana U20 head coach, has been named as Laumann’s replacement. The GFA hopes Ofei’s fresh ideas and focus on integrating young talents will align with their vision of building a stronger and more competitive national team.
Laumann’s contributions to the team are acknowledged, but his departure underscores the GFA’s determination to enhance the Black Stars’ technical setup as they prepare for the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.
This decision marks a significant step in the GFA’s effort to improve the team’s overall performance, with many watching closely to see how the changes will impact the Black Stars’ results in future competitions.
