Basake Holy Stars delivered an emphatic second-half display to secure a 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
After a subdued first half, Prince Opoku broke the deadlock early in the second half with a clinical finish. Issah Yakubu doubled the lead midway through, capitalizing on defensive lapses from the visitors. Prince Tweneboah sealed the dominant win in stoppage time with a composed strike.
Despite enjoying a slight edge in possession at 52%, Young Apostles struggled to translate it into meaningful opportunities. The visitors managed just five attempts, none of which tested the Holy Stars’ goalkeeper. In stark contrast, Holy Stars were ruthless in attack, converting all three of their shots on target into goals, out of 11 total attempts.
The win marks back-to-back victories for Basake Holy Stars, who have climbed to eighth in the league standings. This was the first-ever Premier League meeting between the two newly promoted sides.
For Young Apostles, the defeat came under the stewardship of newly appointed head coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru Tijani, who took charge following Joseph Asare Bediako’s departure last month. Tijani’s debut highlighted the team’s struggles in front of goal and defensive frailties.
Basake Holy Stars will look to continue their momentum when they face league leaders Heart of Lions in their next fixture. Meanwhile, Young Apostles aim to bounce back as they host Vision FC.
