Ghanaian striker Latif Blessing made his debut for Toronto FC in a Major League Soccer (MLS) match against Chicago Fire, but unfortunately, it ended in a 1-0 defeat for his team at Soldier Field on Saturday.
The 26-year-old former Ghana Premier League top scorer came on as a substitute in the 52nd minute, replacing Deandre Kerr in the game.
Chicago Fire secured the victory late in the match, with substitute Kacper Przybylko scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute.
Blessing was acquired by Toronto FC from New England Revolution, along with a 2023 international roster slot, in exchange for midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye.
During his time with New England Revolution, Blessing played 16 matches in both the MLS Regular Season and the U.S. Open Cup.
Prior to joining Toronto FC, Blessing spent five seasons (2018-2022) with Los Angeles FC (LAFC), where he made a total of 167 appearances across all competitions. During his tenure at LAFC, he won two Supporters’ Shield titles (in 2019 and 2022) and one MLS Cup (in 2022).
Blessing’s best season with LAFC was in 2019, where he played 34 matches, scoring six goals, and providing six assists in regular-season games, contributing significantly to the team’s first Supporters’ Shield title.
Before moving to LAFC, Blessing began his professional career in 2017 when he transferred from Ghana Premier League side Liberty Professionals to Sporting Kansas City.
