Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has suffered a significant setback in his recovery from a torn left cruciate ligament, forcing him to undergo another surgery.
The 28-year-old SC Freiburg player has been experiencing increased strain on his knee, which has led to the decision to undergo the procedure.
Kyereh has left SC Freiburg’s training camp in Schruns to prepare for the operation, which aims to determine the next steps for his treatment and load management. This is the second time he has torn the cruciate ligament in his left knee, explaining his prolonged absence from the field.
Initially, a year was allocated for Kyereh’s recovery, but this timeline has since been exceeded, with him now sidelined for approximately 18 months. The latest setback is expected to further delay his return, likely extending his absence well beyond this season. As a result, the former St Pauli attacker can effectively be written off for this season.
Kyereh’s return is unlikely before the end of the calendar year, making it increasingly apparent that he will miss a substantial part of the season.
The Black Stars attacker joined SC Freiburg in 2022 on a free transfer from St Pauli.
