Francis Amuzu scored his maiden goal in the Brazilian Serie A on Saturday night, but Gremio were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding a late equalizer against Red Bull Bragantino at Arena do Grêmio.
The Belgian-born Ghanaian winger was introduced in the 59th minute, replacing Alysson Edward, and wasted no time in making his presence felt. In the 87th minute, Amuzu finished off a swift counterattack with a superb right-footed strike from outside the box, following an assist from Danish forward Martin Braithwaite. His goal ignited celebrations among the home fans as Gremio looked poised for victory.
However, their lead lasted only two minutes. Bragantino responded quickly through Paraguayan forward Isidro Pitta, who calmly converted from close range after a precise pass from Eric Ramires in the 89th minute.
Despite controlling just 38% of possession and creating fewer chances, Gremio showed promise but were ultimately denied maximum points. The result leaves them still searching for form in Round 8 of the Serie A campaign.
Amuzu’s goal was his first in five league appearances for Gremio this season, and his lively performance off the bench could earn him more playing time in upcoming matches.
