Leicester City Football Club has officially named Dean Smith as its new manager, with former Chelsea center-back John Terry joining as an assistant.
The announcement comes just days after Brendan Rodgers was dismissed in early April. The Foxes wasted no time in appointing their new coach, and Smith will now take on the responsibility of maintaining the team’s position in the Premier League.
The former Aston Villa coach has signed a contract until the end of the season and arrives with Terry, who served as his assistant at Villa.
Smith is highly regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the Premier League, and his arrival is expected to benefit the team’s defense, including Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey.
Leicester currently sits in 19th position in the Premier League standings with 25 points in 30 games.
In an official statement released by the club on Monday, Leicester City said, “Dean’s coaching line-up will also include former England captain John Terry, who served under Dean’s management as a coach at Aston Villa, along with City’s current First Team Coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell.”
Terry, who won five Premier League titles with Chelsea during his 19 seasons with the Blues in over 700 appearances, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Leicester.
