Ghanaian football has received a major boost as the government has cleared all outstanding salaries owed to current and former technical staff of the Black Stars. This move is seen as a key step toward restoring trust and professionalism in the country’s football system.
Led by the Ministry for Sports and Recreation under Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, the payment fulfills a promise made during the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama to promote fairness and transparency in the sports sector.
For several years, some coaches who guided the national team through important qualifiers and tournaments had not been paid. The cleared arrears cover a range of staff, including former head coaches Chris Hughton and C.K. Akonnor, as well as assistant coaches George Boateng, Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Maxwell Konadu.
The current technical team, headed by Otto Addo, also received payments for salaries owed between October 2024 and March 2025.
This resolution came after a careful audit and collaboration between various government agencies to ensure that the process was fair and transparent.
According to the Sports Minister, the goal is not only to settle old debts but also to show appreciation for those who have served the nation. He added that this is part of a broader effort to build a more professional and accountable sports system.
To maintain this progress, the ministry is preparing to launch a National Sports Fund. The fund will provide regular payments and improve financial support for sports professionals across Ghana.
