Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has hailed Ghanaian midfielder Amankwah Forson for his perseverance and game-changing performance in the Canaries’ dramatic 2-1 Championship win over Coventry City on Saturday.
Forson, who joined Norwich earlier this season, had struggled to secure regular playing time and had been absent from the squad for the last seven league matches.
“It hasn’t been easy for him,” Thorup said after the game. “He’s a new player in a new country who hasn’t been in the side much recently. He has found it difficult to settle, as many players do in this situation, but the other players have helped him, and to have that happen at the end was very special for him.”
Brought on in the 84th minute, Forson turned the game around in stunning fashion. Norwich had been trailing since Milan van Ewijk’s 24th-minute goal, despite creating multiple scoring opportunities. Forson leveled the score with a brilliant curling strike from the edge of the box and sealed the victory minutes later with a deflected effort following a setup from Onel Hernandez.
Thorup encouraged Forson to relish his moment of glory: “I usually advise players not to get too caught up in post-match hype, but this time I told him to soak it all in—it’s a well-deserved moment for him.”
The win keeps Norwich within striking distance of the playoff positions, narrowing the gap to four points and securing their third win in four matches.
Forson, 22, has now tallied two goals and two assists in 17 appearances this season, totaling 635 minutes on the pitch.
