George Amoako, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, has expressed his disappointment with the performance of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
Since his appointment in February 2023, Hughton has overseen three games as the coach of the national team. While the team remains undefeated under his leadership, Amoako believes that Hughton has not lived up to expectations.
Speaking in an interview with WestGold Radio’s George Kuntu Blankson, Amoako stated, “He [Chris Hughton] has not been impressive. I watched the Madagascar game and went to Angola for the match against the Central African Republic, but in all the games we’ve played under him, I’m not impressed.”
Amoako emphasized the importance of qualifying for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast and the need for the team to secure a spot in the World Cup in the United States. He acknowledged that more work needs to be done to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
“He [Chris Hughton] has not been impressive, I watched the Madagascar game and went to Angola against Central African Republic, but in all the games we’ve played under him, I’m not impressed”, George Amoako told Takoradi-based WestGold Radio broadcaster George Kuntu Blankson in an interview.
“Let’s pray we qualify for the next AFCON in Ivory Coast and as for the World Cup, we have to qualify and go to America because Ghanaians want to travel to America but so far a lot have to be done”, he added.
To secure qualification for the main tournament in Ivory Coast, Ghana will need to defeat the Central African Republic in their final group game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in September this year.
