Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus has revealed his personal development as a footballer is something that he does not joke with.
Kudus was keen on a move to Premier League side Everton after finding minutes hard to come during the early part of the season with Ajax.
The midfielder was only given 29 minutes in the first four league games of the season, prompting him to reconsider his decision away from the club.
Speaking on Star Connect, the 22-year-old said the rationale behind looking elsewhere was to find a club to continue his development.
“My decision to want a transfer away from Ajax was not really because of my playing time ahead of the World Cup,” he said.
“For me, to develop is to get minutes, that is the only way you can develop. This is my work and I don’t joke with my development and where I want to reach as a footballer. So, if I am in a stage I feel I’m not developing at that moment, then why not maybe I should have a try somewhere else?”
Kudus failed to join Ajax as his efforts were blocked by the Dutch side who felt he had a lot to give the club.
