Asante Kotoko forward Albert Amoah continued his stellar form on Sunday, scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The fiercely contested encounter saw both teams battling for supremacy, with Kotoko dominating large spells of the game but missing several clear-cut chances, particularly in the first half. As the match approached its conclusion, it appeared destined to end in a stalemate.
However, in stoppage time, Amoah capitalized on a defensive error by Hearts’ backline, calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to secure a dramatic win for the Porcupine Warriors. The victory not only handed Kotoko the bragging rights but also reinforced their dominance in recent clashes with their sworn rivals.
Speaking in a post-match interview, the 22-year-old striker credited Hearts defender Kelvin Osei Asibey for providing a tough challenge, describing him as a strong and resolute opponent. Amoah also dedicated his winning goal to former Kotoko star Eric Bekoe, who had encouraged him before the match.
“Osei Asibey is a very strong defender and gave me a tough time, but I give credit to Eric Bekoe because he called me this morning and said, ‘Albert, you have a goal today,’” Amoah shared.
Amoah’s latest strike takes his tally to eight goals in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season. The in-form striker will look to continue his scoring streak as Kotoko prepares for a challenging away fixture against Dreams FC in the next round.
