Ibrahim Osman, a former striker for Asante Kotoko, has reached out to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) seeking assistance with his medical expenses.
He requires approximately GHC40,000.00 for surgery to address his injury, but thus far, he has not received any support.
In an interview with Accra-based Angel 102.9 FM, Osman revealed his plight, saying, “I was neglected by Nana Yaw Amponsah and his management; he refused to answer my calls, and now my contract with the club has expired. I’m pleading with GFA to help me with my surgery.”
“I have been home for more than a year without playing football, and I will need GHC40,000 for my surgery.”
Osman, who previously played for Asante Kotoko, alleged that he was neglected by the club’s management during his time with them. He returned to Asante Kotoko in August 2022 after a loan spell with King Faisal, carrying an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Now, at 24 years old, with his contract expiring in June 2023 and no club affiliation, Osman has been grappling with the ACL injury for over a year.
He explained that discussions took place between the medical teams of Asante Kotoko and King Faisal, leading to an MRI scan that confirmed the ACL injury. However, Nana Yaw Amponsah, the former CEO of Asante Kotoko, allegedly ignored his calls.
Osman is now in need of medical surgery and has turned to the GFA for assistance. His situation underscores the challenges that players can face, especially regarding medical expenses, once their contracts with clubs have expired. It emphasizes the importance of support systems and aid for players, particularly in cases where they encounter health-related issues after their tenure with a club.
