Former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, vehemently denies the widespread falsehood suggesting that he claimed to have Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo in his pocket.
In response to the infamous quote attributed to him after the 2018 investigative expose by journalist Anas Armeyaw Anas, Nyantakyi categorically denies making such a statement.
On Starr Chart with Bola Ray, Nyantakyi refutes the alleged quote, challenging Anas to produce a tape supporting the claim.
He describes the situation as propaganda aimed at tarnishing his image and undermining his political aspirations. Nyantakyi expresses dismay at disrespectful cartoons circulating, reducing him to a spider with Nana Akufo-Addo’s image in his pocket.
While Nyantakyi acknowledges engaging in business discussions with individuals posing as investors, he clarifies that his intent was to facilitate investments and connect them with politicians.
“I never said I had the president in my pocket, Anas should produce the tape where I said that, how could I have even said that?,” the former GFA capo quizzed.
“I never ever said that but I saw cartoons of Kwesi Nyantakyi, reduced into a spider with Nana Akufo-Addo’s head protruding out of my pocket. It was very disrespectful for people to do that.”
“I said that, I am a Ghanaian and I know politicians, once they want to invest in Ghana, I can lead them to these politicians and I don’t think there’s anything bad with that
He emphasizes the misrepresentation by those claiming to be large business conglomerates, suggesting the discussions revolved around potential investments, including a $2 billion refinery in Ghana.
“These are people who falsely represented themselves as large business conglomerates and that they could be a refinery in Ghana, which cost over $2 billion and that is how it all came about.”
Nyantakyi resigned from his FA and CAF positions and later faced a FIFA ban following the documentary’s release in June 2018
