Newly appointed head coach of the Black Meteors, Kasim Ocansey Mingle, has revealed his plans to prioritize local players during his tenure as he seeks to build a formidable Ghana U23 team.
Mingle, who also serves as head coach of Nations FC, was recently named to lead the Black Meteors, replacing Maxwell Konadu. Konadu vacated the role to join South African National First Division side Black Leopards. Known for his emphasis on player development, Mingle brings a wealth of experience to the position.
In an interview, the former Bechem United coach explained his approach. “I will start with local players as head coach of the Ghana U23 team. It will be prudent to build a strong local team. The foreign players would have to come and compete for places in the team,” he stated.
He further clarified that while his focus will be on local talent, there is room for exceptional foreign-based players. “I will focus more on local players, but then, if I get one or two foreign players who are good, I will include them. It is not going to be a wholesale foreign players; we have to build it from here,” Mingle emphasized.
Mingle’s credentials speak for themselves. A seasoned coach with extensive experience at various levels of Ghanaian football, he has been instrumental in talent development. From leading Bechem United to coaching in academies, colts, and the second tier, Mingle has developed a keen eye for nurturing young talent.
As a former player, Mingle had an active career with top-tier teams such as Dumas Boys of GTP, GIHOC Stars, Sekondi Eleven Wise, and Accra Standfast, spanning over eight years. His understanding of the game, both on and off the pitch, positions him to inspire and develop the next generation of football stars.
With a clear vision and a strong commitment to building from the grassroots, Mingle aims to elevate Ghanaian football and lead the Black Meteors to new heights.
