Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his joy after arriving in Ghana for the Christmas holidays.
The Dutch-born Ghanaian star landed in Ghana on Sunday, taking advantage of the Bundesliga’s winter break to visit the country for the first time. Although his parents are both Ghanaian, this marks Frimpong’s first trip to the West African nation.
Frimpong, who played for Leverkusen against Freiburg on Saturday before traveling, plans to engage in various activities during his stay, including charity work.
Speaking about his arrival, the talented right-back shared his excitement:
“Amazing to come to this welcoming atmosphere for the first time, amazing you know. This is my people, so I am so happy to see everybody. I’m so happy to be in Ghana.”
He also reflected on his connection to his heritage, saying:
“I’ve always been connected to my Ghanaian roots. Both my parents are Ghanaian, I eat Ghanaian food, I speak the language. Obviously, being here makes it extra special.”
The 24-year-old has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen this season, making 15 Bundesliga appearances, scoring two goals, and providing four assists. On the international stage, Frimpong has represented the Netherlands 10 times since his debut in October 2023.
