Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has revealed the inspiration behind his unique goal celebration featuring a traditional Ghanaian elephant stool during West Ham’s match against Brighton.
Kudus, known for his iconic “take a seat” celebration often imitated by other players, decided to add a cultural twist after scoring the equalizer in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the London Olympic Stadium. Instead of his usual routine, the former Ajax star celebrated by sitting on a specially crafted elephant stool brought onto the pitch.
Speaking after the game, Kudus explained the symbolic gesture: “The stool is from Ghana. With my usual celebration on the boards being copied by many, I wanted to do something different to stand out and showcase Ghana.”
He added, “The elephant represents traditional authority back home in Ghana.”
Kudus, who recently returned from a five-game suspension, has been in fine form this season, contributing three goals and an assist in 12 Premier League appearances. His celebration not only highlighted his creativity but also served as a nod to his cultural roots.
