Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie has expressed his desire to receive a call-up to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The former Thought FC striker made his senior national team debut in November, when he was included in Ghana’s squad for their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger.
Despite the Black Stars suffering a 2-1 defeat, Afriyie made an instant impact, scoring in a brief substitute appearance.
The young striker has already made a name for himself on the international stage. He played a key role in Ghana’s gold medal-winning campaign at the All-African Games and was instrumental in securing qualification for the U-20 AFCON, where he was crowned Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer.
Currently on loan at CD Lugo from his parent club Al Qadisiyah, Afriyie has scored two goals in the ongoing season.
When asked about the possibility of joining the Black Stars for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, he told 3Sports,
“I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there is more [goals] on the way coming.”
Ghana, who are currently second in Group I with nine points, remain on course to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a disappointing AFCON qualifiers campaign.
The Black Stars will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT, before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24, in Matchday five and six of the qualifiers.
