German-Ghanaian forward Justin Diehl finally made his return for VfB Stuttgart in their home clash against VfL Wolfsburg after nearly two months out with thigh imjury.
The 20-year-old, who had been sidelined since late last year, was named in the matchday squad and came on in the 70th minute, replacing Jamie Leweling.
The game was filled with excitement, as both sides battled for control. Stuttgart broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Nick Woltemade found the net with a precise right-footed finish from the center of the box, following a swift counterattack led by Angelo Stiller.
However, Wolfsburg responded quickly, leveling the score just five minutes later. Tiago Tomás capitalized on an opportunity, striking the ball with his left foot, courtesy of an assist from Mohammed Amoura.
The drama escalated in the 87th minute when Wolfsburg won a penalty. Mohammed Amoura stepped up and converted the spot-kick with a well-placed shot to the bottom right corner, sealing a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
Despite Stuttgart’s disappointing loss, Diehl’s return was a bright spot, offering hope for the team as they look ahead to their next fixture against Hoffenheim on February 23rd.
