Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana opened his Premier League goal account for the season, but his strike was not enough to prevent Southampton from falling to a 3-1 home defeat against an in-form Bournemouth side.
Sulemana found the back of the net in the 72nd minute, driving a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper after receiving a well-placed pass from Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu. The goal briefly gave the Saints hope, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
However, Bournemouth quickly restored their two-goal advantage when Marcus Tavernier capitalized on an assist from Ghana’s Antoine Semenyo to seal the victory for the visitors.
The Cherries had started the game strongly, taking the lead in the 14th minute through Burkinabè forward Dango Ouattara. Just two minutes later, Ryan Christie doubled their advantage, putting Southampton on the back foot early on.
Despite the defeat, Sulemana continues to show signs of improvement under manager Ivan Juric. His goal against Bournemouth marked his third direct contribution across all competitions this season, having previously registered a goal and an assist in the FA Cup.
The Ghana international, who turned 23 on February 15, has now made 13 Premier League appearances this season and will be looking to build on his recent form as Southampton fight to climb the table.
