Abdul Gazale, the coach of Asante Kotoko, has credited goalkeeper Frederick Asare for his crucial saves that helped his team defeat Aduana Stars on Sunday. Asare was given the nod ahead of national goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim in the Ghana Premier League Week 27 fixture.
Isaac Mintah opened the scoring for Aduana Stars, but Steven Mukwala equalized for Kotoko before Eric Zeze scored the winner. Gazale praised Asare for his saves and credited him for saving the team from conceding an equalizer.
“When you look at Asare’s saves, it’s not just one. In the first half, he made one save, and in the second half, he made two more saves for us. When everything has gone beyond the players, he has to be the last person to save us, and he was able to do it. I think I have to give him credit for that, and he was able to save us from that equalizer,” Gazale said.
Asare and Ibrahim Danlad have been rotating in games, and the club has not yet decided on its first-choice goalkeeper.
Asare joined the Kumasi-based outfit at the beginning of the season after leaving Accra Lions and has made 12 appearances this season, keeping four clean sheets.
Asante Kotoko is now five points behind Aduana Stars in the title race.
