Black Stars attacker Joseph Paintsil has expressed disappointment following KRC Genk’s elimination from the Europa League despite victory over Cukaricki.
The Ghanaian international showcased resilience and redemption on Thursday night, contributing a composed finish to secure a 2-0 victory for KRC Genk against Cukaricki in the Europa Conference League.
Starting for the Belgian side in the Round 6 clash of the Conference League group stage, Paintsil faced an early challenge when he missed a penalty kick in the opening minutes. Undeterred, the Black Stars forward bounced back with a stellar performance.
Playing a pivotal role, Paintsil played a part in Bryan Heynen’s 21st-minute equalizer, allowing Genk to enter the first-half break with a narrow 1-0 lead. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half, Genk continued to exhibit a strong performance.
“Disappointed we couldn’t make it to the next stage but there is a lot ahead to fight for. Thank you Genkies for the support,” wrote Paintsil on X after the game.
In the 57th minute, Joseph Paintsil redeemed himself by scoring, sealing a 2-0 triumph for Genk.
Despite the win, Genk fell short of qualifying for the knockout stage, finishing in third place in the group.
Meanwhile, the former Tema Youth star is expected to make Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Paintsil has made 11 goal contributions this season, with six strikes and five assists.
