Ghanaian forward Kwadwo Poku Mahala opened his account for the 2026 Major League Soccer season with a composed finish, helping CF Montreal secure an emphatic 4-1 victory over New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening.
The former Ghana youth international came off the bench to seal the win, scoring Montreal’s fourth goal in the 77th minute to cap a dominant performance from the home side.
Poku made the most of a clever chipped pass from compatriot and captain Prince Osei-Owusu, timing his run perfectly before calmly slotting the ball into an empty net after the Red Bulls defence was caught out of position.
The goal marked a positive milestone for the 24-year-old, who has been steadily working his way into form as he adapts to the intensity and demands of top-flight football in North America.
His strike rounded off a commanding attacking display from CF Montreal, who secured their first home victory of the season in convincing fashion.
Known for his pace, direct dribbling and attacking flair, Poku continues to be regarded as one of Ghana’s promising talents abroad.
Having impressed at youth level earlier in his career, the forward is now gradually finding consistency at senior level and will be eager to build on this breakthrough performance in the coming weeks.
With his confidence boosted, Poku will be targeting more minutes and regular contributions as CF Montreal aim to climb the MLS standings.
