Asante Kotoko returnee Kwame Opoku has expressed his determination to help the club secure silverware during his second tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.
Opoku, who enjoyed a prolific first stint with Kotoko before joining Algerian side USM Alger in 2021, is back and eager to make a bigger impact this time around. The 25-year-old forward netted nine goals during his initial spell, cementing his place as a key player for the Kumasi-based giants.
Officially unveiled before the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, Opoku shared his ambitions in an interview with the club’s media team, acknowledging that he left Kotoko without winning any silverware but is now focused on helping the team achieve its objectives.
“I have to help the team achieve its goals of winning trophies and competing on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint, but I believe I have a lot to offer this time,” he stated.
Reflecting on his 2021 departure to USM Alger, Opoku revealed it was an emotional decision. “Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure, I felt bad about leaving such a great club,” he admitted.
It remains to be seen whether Opoku will make his competitive return this weekend when Asante Kotoko face Dreams FC.
