Legon Cities and defender Michael Ampadu have officially ended their association ahead of the upcoming season.
The dynamic right-back had joined the Ghana Premier League outfit in October 2020, coming from Liberty Professionals, and quickly established himself as a crucial player for the team.
Having spent nearly three years with the club, the 25-year-old has now departed, seeking new opportunities with another club before the start of the season. With his contract coming to an end this month, both parties mutually agreed to part ways in preparation for the 2023/24 season.
Throughout Ampadu’s time at Legon Cities, there were long-standing interests from Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to acquire his services, but all efforts to secure a deal with the Porcupines especially ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Legon Cities has officially announced the appointment of Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin as their new head coach for the upcoming season. The experienced coach joins the Royals after a single season with Aduana Stars, where he guided the club to an impressive second-place finish in the Ghana Premier League last season.
Fabin takes over from Maxwell Konadu, who recently departed the club to join Nsoatreman FC. The specifics of Fabin’s contract will be revealed by Legon Cities in the coming days, but it is anticipated that the former Kotoko coach will assume his duties starting from August 1, 2023.
