Mohammed Kudus’ stunning solo effort against Freiburg in last season’s Europa League has earned him a nomination for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award.
The Ghanaian midfielder showcased remarkable skill during the quarter-finals, dribbling past multiple Freiburg defenders from his own half before calmly finishing with his weaker foot. This spectacular goal not only secured him West Ham United’s Goal of the Season but has now placed him in contention for global recognition.
Kudus faces stiff competition for the award, which celebrates the best goal of the year. Other African nominees include Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia.
The shortlist also features Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, whose acrobatic overhead kick against Everton captured global attention. Additional contenders include Qatar’s Hassan Al Haydos, Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, Australia’s Terry Antonis, Argentina’s Walter Bou, Honduras’ Michaell Chirinos, and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene.
The winner of the FIFA Puskás Award will be unveiled during the FIFA Awards ceremony in January 2025.
