Following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in an international friendly, head coach Otto Addo has shed light on his tactical decision to utilize Ernest Nuamah as a false nine during the match.
In the match held at the Stade de Marrakesh, Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman scored for the Super Eagles, while Jordan Ayew converted a late penalty for Ghana.
Addo explained his strategy, stating, “In the first half, we had a little bit of problems because I wanted him [Ernest Nuamah] to play like a false nine to drop more into the midfield.”
Despite the defeat, Addo praised the adaptability of the squad, especially considering the number of new players and limited training time. He commended their ability to adapt to his tactical instructions, acknowledging the challenges posed by injuries.
“In our squad, we have about 8 players who are here for the first time and on the pitch also trained just four days together with the whole new squad because of injuries and for that, I have to say they adapted well and they did well in adapting to the way I want them to play was good,” Addo added.
Looking ahead, Addo aims to secure his first win as Ghana faces Uganda’s Cranes on Tuesday at the same venue, hoping to build on the team’s adaptability and improve their performance.
