The RSC Anderlecht midfielder, has disclosed that he felt bad after being left out of Black Stars’ squad by then manager Otto Addo for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The attacking midfielder after making the provisional squad got dropped, subsequently when manager Otto Addo named his final team for the tournament.
Ashimeru discusses that playing at the World Cup is every player’s dream but felt bad about the decision of Otto Addo to leave him out of the final squad.
“The World Cup is the biggest football tournament in the world and every player wants to play the World Cup,” he told 3Sports in an interview.
“Personally, I felt bad for not playing at the World Cup but I also felt these are my guys and they need my support.”
He, however, admitted that he was delighted to see RC Lens midfielder Abdul Samed Salis and Ajax star Mohammed Kudus feature at the world’s biggest football tournament in Qatar.
“Seeing Samed Salis at the World Cup makes me happy because he is someone I always talk to every day and with Kudus (Mohammed), he is like a younger brother to me because we grew up in the same hood and me seeing them at the World Cup makes me happy,” he added.
Ghana, four-time African Champions exited the tournament at the group stage with just three points, having won just a game against South Korea but suffered defeats against Portugal and Uruguay.
Majeed Ashimeru, is currently a member of the Black Stars team under new head coach Chris Hughton and would be hoping to make Ghana’s final squad for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars need just a win in September against Central Africa Republic to ensure they book qualification for the Afcon.
