Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Port City FC have strengthened their squad ahead of their first season in the top flight with the signing of experienced midfielder Gideon Waja.
The transfer, confirmed on Tuesday by sports journalist Shaban Mohammed, sees the talented midfielder make a return to Ghanaian domestic football after gaining valuable experience both locally and abroad.
Waja arrives at Port City FC with a strong reputation as one of the most technically gifted midfielders of his generation, bringing leadership, creativity and top-flight experience to the newly promoted side.
The midfielder previously made his name with West African Football Academy (WAFA) SC, where he captained the Academy Boys and played a key role during one of the club’s most successful periods in the Ghana Premier League.
During his time with WAFA, Waja made more than 50 appearances in the top division, earning recognition for his composure on the ball, passing ability and tactical intelligence from midfield.
Beyond his domestic achievements, the midfielder has also enjoyed spells outside Ghana, representing clubs including Toronto FC II in North America, AFC Leopards in Kenya and Hamilton United in Canada.
His international experience also includes a successful spell with Ghana’s local national team, the Black Stars B, where he was part of the squad that won the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup.
Port City FC are confident that Waja’s experience and leadership qualities will prove valuable as the club prepares for the demands of Ghana’s top division.
The midfielder is expected to play a key role in providing balance and stability in the middle of the pitch while helping guide younger players within the squad.
His arrival represents another strong statement of intent from Port City FC, who are determined not only to compete in the Ghana Premier League but also to establish themselves as a permanent presence among the country’s elite clubs.
