In a grand ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu bestowed prestigious national honors upon the Super Eagles of Nigeria, including the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), flats in the Federal Capital Territory, and parcels of land.
Gathered at the Council Chamber, the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were greeted by President Tinubu, accompanied by Sports Development Minister Senator John Owan Enoh.
Attired in their iconic green uniforms, the Super Eagles, who secured the runner-up position in the recent African Cup of Nations (AFCON), were lauded for their resilience. Notably, Alex Iwobi, who faced online criticism following Nigeria’s loss in the final, stood among the honored.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended the team, coach, crew, and management for their unwavering dedication throughout the tournament. He acknowledged their journey, marked by challenges overcome and a commendable performance leading to the finals.
Emphasizing the nation’s unity and resilience, President Tinubu urged Nigerians not to be disheartened but rather to unite and strive harder. He celebrated Nigeria’s ability to capture the hearts of Africa and the world through the team’s determination on the field.
Directing his message to the Nigerian youth, Tinubu encouraged them to pursue their dreams, highlighting the potential for future heroes to emerge from grassroots football.
