Former Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has expressed that guiding the Black Stars to their inaugural World Cup appearance stands out as his most significant accomplishment during his tenure as GFA president.
Under Nyantakyi’s leadership, Ghana qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, marking a historic milestone for the national team.
Despite exiting at the Round of 16, the Black Stars showcased their potential by defeating the Czech Republic and the United States during the group stage.
Nyantakyi continued to oversee Ghana’s participation in subsequent World Cup tournaments, including the 2010 edition in South Africa and the 2014 event in Brazil.
However, reflecting on his tenure, Nyantakyi emphasized that achieving qualification for the World Cup in Germany remains his most cherished accomplishment.
“Qualifying for the World Cup in Germany was my greatest achievement,” he said in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM.
In the aftermath of the 2018 investigative documentary “Number 12” by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Nyantakyi resigned from his positions at the GFA and CAF and subsequently received a ban from FIFA.
