Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to go head-to-head to secure the signature of Chelsea’s promising talent, Josh Acheampong.
The 18-year-old right-back, a graduate of Chelsea’s academy, made his senior professional debut last season in a 2-0 Premier League victory against Tottenham in May.
Acheampong is highly regarded at Chelsea, with the club initially considering promoting him to the first team for the 2024-25 campaign. However, the Blues may now be forced to sell the youngster to comply with the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and to reduce their bloated 44-man squad.
According to reports from The Independent, both Real Madrid and PSG have expressed keen interest in Acheampong, with both clubs prepared to offer up to €15 million (£12m/$16m) to secure his services. Acheampong, who is predominantly a right-back but can also operate as a central defender, has attracted attention due to his versatility in the backline.
Acheampong, born in London, joined Chelsea’s youth system at the age of eight. He made his debut for the England U16 team in 2022 and has since represented the country at U17 and U18 levels.
