Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Maxwell Boateng De Kort revealed that he has decided to opt for playing for the Ghana national team over the Netherlands.
The 19-year-old centreback, who currently plays for Petro Eis in Belgium, was asked to choose between the two countries, and he was quick to respond that he has always dreamed of playing for Ghana.
Despite being born in the Netherlands and having a Dutch mother, Boateng has maintained a strong connection to his Ghanaian heritage, thanks to his Ghanaian father.
“I’m in the process of getting a dual citizenship, so for the passport, I’m not playing for any country and I hope to play for Ghana national team Under 20 because that’s my age,” he said in an interview on Kessben TV.
Boateng explained that his decision to choose Ghana was influenced by his love for the country’s football history, despite his experiences playing in Europe. He expressed his admiration for Ghana’s national team and his desire to be part of the team.
“I would like to play for Ghana and I am sure about that because I’ve been watching Ghana over the years in good and bad times, I like and I will also choose them,” he concluded.
As a child of mixed parentage, Boateng is also eligible to play for Belgium, but it seems that his heart belongs to Ghana.
