Tariq Lamptey, the Brighton and Hove Albion defender, has shared the reasons behind his decision to represent the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Having previously played for England at various youth levels, the former Chelsea right-back opted to switch his allegiance to Ghana in July of the previous year.
Lamptey explained that his choice was influenced by the overwhelming love and support he experienced when establishing his charity foundation in Ghana.
“There were several factors that contributed to my decision, but one of the key moments was when I started my charity foundation. The incredible feeling I received from the people and the support they showed me was instrumental in influencing my decision to play for the Black Stars,” Lamptey revealed during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show.
Lamptey further disclosed that his charity foundation has been actively operating in Ghana for over five years, a project he initiated during his time at Chelsea.
Since making his debut in a friendly match against Brazil as part of the World Cup preparations in Qatar, Lamptey has gained recognition for his impressive performances, despite Ghana’s early exit from the tournament.
While it is anticipated that Lamptey may not be included in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar next month, he remains committed to making a valuable contribution to the national team in the future.
