Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has called on fans to remain patient and trust in the long-term project he is building at the club after their first victory of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians secured a much-needed 2-0 win over Bechem United on Sunday, following a challenging start to the campaign.
The win came after back-to-back losses in their opening two matches against Basake Holy Stars and Heart of Lions, which led to some fans demanding Ouattara’s dismissal. However, after breaking the losing streak, the Ivorian coach took the opportunity to emphasize the club’s broader ambitions.
“Hearts of Oak does not belong to me,” Ouattara said during the post-match interview. “Hearts of Oak has a big project. The goal is to build a strong team to conquer, not just to win for the sake of it.”
Ouattara also reflected on the tactical adjustments made during their second match against Heart of Lions, which he admitted had backfired. However, he praised his players for their response against Bechem United.
“I made changes against Lions, and it did not work,” he explained. “Today, I kept faith in the team, and they responded well. It shows that we are human, but also that I am learning from these experiences and not repeating mistakes.”
Hearts of Oak will now turn their attention to their upcoming away fixture against Nations FC, where they hope to build on their first win of the season.
