Ghana coach Chris Hughton is well aware of the pressure to secure victories as the Black Stars initiate their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The team is set to face Madagascar in Kumasi on Friday, with Hughton aiming for a positive start before their subsequent match against Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday.
The upcoming fixtures follow a challenging international window where the Black Stars faced defeats against Mexico (2-0) and the USA (4-0), exposing defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of attacking prowess.
Hughton emphasized, “The pressure I am always under is to win football matches. The most important thing is to make sure we win. We want to qualify, and the best way is to win.”
Acknowledging his responsibilities, Hughton stated, “My responsibilities are always to get the correct results I need for the team, for the [Ghana Football] Association, the country, and supporters.”
The coach is keenly aware of the significance of the upcoming fixtures, focusing on securing positive results. Despite the Africa Cup of Nations looming in January, Hughton is concentrating on the immediate challenge.
“I’m aware of how important these two games are. I know we have the AFCON in January, but at this moment, we are concentrating on these two fixtures,” he added.
Ghana’s qualification prospects for the 2026 FIFA World Cup hinge on topping their qualifying group, which includes Mali, Central African Republic, and Chad. Success in the group stage would secure their place in the World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
