Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has spoken about the emotional pain of Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting that the team’s exit was a bitter disappointment after believing they had the quality to go much further in the tournament.
Ghana’s impressive World Cup campaign came to an end following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, bringing to a close the Black Stars’ hopes of making a historic run in the competition.
Reacting to the heartbreaking exit, Partey acknowledged the frustration felt throughout the squad, saying the players had confidence in their ability to achieve much more.
“The disappointment is hard to put into words because we believed we were capable of so much more.”
The experienced midfielder noted that the pain of the defeat will remain with the players for some time, but stressed that the team must learn from the experience and use it as motivation for future competitions.
Despite the disappointment, Ghana’s campaign marked a significant improvement, with the Black Stars reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament. The team is now expected to shift its focus to rebuilding and preparing for upcoming international assignments, including the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
